GETTING HERE

GETTING HERE

Golden Child is located on the 3rd floor at 251 Spadina Ave right in the heart of downtown Toronto. We’re situated right in the middle of China Town, a neighbourhood with a rich history and a ton of great restaurants and shops.

Our perfect day would start with a coffee at Ninetails Coffee, some lunch at Saigon Lotus, a quick visit to a funky photography (and coffee) lab called Graination and some record shopping at Sonic Boom.

If you’re taking transit, we recommend getting to Spadina Station and taking the streetcar/bus south to Dundas and then walking for approximately 3 minutes.

If you’re driving, there’s an underground Green P parking lot right next to our building on Grange Ave. You may also find street parking along Grange Ave, Huron St and Sullivan St.

Our building is located on the southeast corner of Spadina & Grange. Head up to the 3rd floor (sorry, the elevator does not work so you’ll have to use the stairs). You will approach a door with a digital key pad, please give us a call when you reach it and we will let you in! Once inside, turn right. Golden Child is the second door on your left.

MAKING THE MOST
OF YOUR STAY

TECH

First things first. The wifi network is Golden Child 5G and the password is stayg0ld3n. Please note that the “0” is a zero.

Once you’re setup, feel free to cast whatever you use to play music to our Sonos Speaker titled Golden Sound. We suggest listening to Hermanos Gutierrez when you’re here (we imagine that if this band was a studio, they’d be Golden Child).

We love remotes as much as we love coffee. Check out the gallery to figure out which remote turns on what but we are fully equipped with a projector, an Apple TV, a Frame TV (sneakily hidden amongst the frames by the desk), a fireplace, and a Golden Child sign. Feel free to use all of them.

COFFEE + TEA + THINGS

We love coffee. We usually have a few local beans but we always have coffee from our favourite roaster Subtext in stock. Please help yourself to anything that’s on hand.

We’re also huge coffee snobs. Unless you know how to use the espresso machine, we suggest avoiding it. Instead, use the Gina, the fancy white drip coffee machine with the golden knob. Use the Gina however you want but if you’re looking for some decent advice, use the top secret recipe we’ve left with you.

We also have a wide variety of teas, sugar, sweetener, and more. There are also disposable plates, napkins, etc. located in the third bin from the left in the coffee station.

Enjoy!

Top secret recipe for that perfect golden cup of coffee. Shhhhhhh.

  1. Turn on the kettle. If it needs water, feel free to grab some from the kitchen.

  2. Use the scale to measure out 18g of whichever beans you’re into.

  3. The grinder is the fancy looking black thing with a little black cup. Open the lid and pour your beans into there. Put the lid back on. You want to grind the beans at setting #12. Not sure which setting you’re on? Turn the dial clockwise until it doesn’t turn anymore, and then turn it counter clockwise to 12 (go past 0 again until you get to 2). Grind those beans, baby!

  4. Grab a paper filter from the shelf above the mugs. Put it into the Gina. Place a mug under the spout. Turn the knob to the left, and add a bit of water to get the whole filter wet. Discard this water.

  5. Still reading? Good! Turn the dial on the Gina clockwise, closing it. Add the beans at the top.

  6. Put the Gina on top of the scale, pare the scale so it goes back to zero grams with the Gina on it.

  7. With the boiled water, add 270g of hot water. Make sure the spout is closed. No water/coffee should be dripping through.

  8. Brew the coffee for 2-minutes. Once you’re ready, turn the golden knob counter clockwise, opening the spout.

  9. Let the coffee pour and enjoy!

  10. Congrats, you’re now a coffee snob :)

Everything beyond the doors of our studio is a common area which is shared with four other studios. We ask that you be the best neighbour ever and introduce yourself where you can. We’re so lucky to share this floor with amazing artists and creatives. We also ask that if you or anyone from your group decides to use this common space, please keep noise levels down and tidy up after yourself.

The restrooms are located right next to the 3rd floor entrance.

If you require additional seating in the studio, feel free to grab any unused chairs or stools located in the common area.

RESTROOMS + COMMON AREA

CLEANING UP + LEAVING

Once you’re ready to leave, please make sure:

  • All garbage and recycling is placed into the bins.

  • If any mugs or dishes were used, please clean them, dry them, and return them back to the studio.

  • Please turn off all lights, signs, the fireplace, projector, Apple TV, and music.

  • Please put everything back to where it was. It doesn’t have to be exact, but you know what we mean :)

  • Lock the studio door and leave the key in the lockbox. Please remember to shuffle the number on the lockbox.

  • Exit out the same door you came from. No need to lock the exit door with the keypad as it will automatically lock after one minute.

  • Send a text to Gilad or Kristen notifying us that you’re done.
